BFC Curling Bonspiel 2011
SATURDAY OCTOBER 29TH saw two teams of hardy, steely-boned fliers square off
in a duel on ice.
Team Whiskey X-ray Uniform VS Team Lima Echo Foxtrot Tango, or WXU VS the lefties.
The lefties scored first but were caught cheating- they had thrown 9 rocks to WXU’s 8. The error was flagged and WXU awarded the point.
The Lefties, with the “hammer”, roared back with a two ender to go up 2-1.
No one had yet fallen but there were some close calls. Balance was somehow maintained. The “ball” wasn’t always centered and there was some slipping and skidding
as we tracked down the localizer. Most of the rocks missed the “button”, some executed missed approaches, enough found the threshold.
On the third end Team LEFT showed their metal and scored a fiver, even without the “hammer”. (See Missed Approach Procedures above)
Again Team WXU was given the advantage and this time they scored! One more point
for the VFR types.
The next end Team LEFT won the day with Brian Melenbacher scoring the point with a Precision Approach on the final rock. He centered the ball and tracked inbound precisely on target and there was no “near miss”. He had squarely struck the rock taking the end.
The rout was on but most of us had enough practice approaches and headed in to the lounge for some fine hangar flying and much needed “rehydration.”
There were no injuries, mishaps, pratfalls or broken bones this time out.
