Commercial Pilot License(CPL)

Requirements for a Commercial Pilot License
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Obtain a category 1 medical
- Have completed the Private Pilot program.
- 200 hours of total time, including hours earned on the Private Pilot License.
- Receive a minimum of 65 hours dual training and solo flight
- Complete 80 hours of Commercial Pilot Ground School
- Pass a knowledge test as well as the practical test

You are welcome to take advantage of our Introductory Flying Lesson without obligation. If you decide that you want to begin training, make an appointment for your Aviation Medical with a Transport Canada Approved Doctor
Private Pilot License(PPL)
Requirements for Becoming a Pilot
- Be at least 14 years old to apply for a Student Permit, and 17 to complete a Recreational Pilot Licence or Private Pilot Licence.
- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Obtain at least a current category 3 medical. The medical must be performed by an Aviation Medical Examiner. Fees for medical examinations (usually $125.00-200.00) are payable to the examining Doctor.
- Receive a minimum of 45 hours of flight time including training and solo flight
- Pass a written test as well as a flight test
Ground School
The Brantford Flight Centre Ground School is a comprehensive training course in our bright and spacious classroom. The Ground School Course takes advantage of an Audio-Visual System and is conducted on Monday evenings from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The course runs for 20 weeks which provides 60 hours of instruction. Subjects covered include: Meteorology, Navigation, Airframes, Engines, Airmanship, Theory of flight and use of Radios.

A night rating is a great addition to your license. Fly at ease knowing you don't have to make it back home before dark. Enjoy the night lights of the city and the calm evening air.
Requirements for Night Rating
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Hold a Private pilot certificate
- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Obtain at least a current category 3 medical
- Obtain 10 hours of night flight time, and 10 hours dual instrument time.

Ready to take the next step towards Airline Pilot? An IFR Rating is a great way to continue your training.
Requirements for Instrument Rating
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Hold a minimum of a private pilots license
- Have completed 50 hours PIC cross country flying
- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Obtain at least a current category 3 medical
- Pass a written test as well as a flight test

Requirements for a Pilot Instructor
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Hold a commercial pilot license
- Have completed a minimum 20 hours instrument time
- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Obtain at least a current category 1 medical
- Complete a minimum of 30 hours instructor rating instruction
- Pass a written test as well as a flight test

Recreational Permit
Requirements for a Recreational Pilot Permit
- Be at least 14 years of age
- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Obtain a category 4 medical.
- Have completed the Recreational Pilot program.
- Receive a minimum of 25 hours of flight time including training and solo flight
- Complete 40 hours of Ground School (Recommended only)
- Pass a written test as well as a flight test
A Rec Permit is a great way to fly for fun, but be aware of the limitations:
- May carry at most ONE passenger
- Limited to DAY VFR only

Where to get your Airplane License in Ontario
Our Brantford Flight Centre has been home to the Brantford Flying Club since 1929. We are located on the west side of Brantford, Ontario minutes from the 403 and within an hour of Toronto, Ontario.
Within the 12 months preceding the date of application for the license, an applicant shall successfully complete a flight test to the standard outlined in the Flight Test Standard Private and Commercial Pilot Licences - Aeroplanes
Currently our license certification is for obtaining an airplane license. At the moment we are not offering a program for licensing helicopter pilots or drone pilots.
